Watts & Dray was commissioned by Turnberry to reimagine The Seagate Hotel & Spa, a 157-key luxury resort in Delray, FL, bringing it fully into the 2020s while honoring its old-world grandeur. Our approach centered on the property’s Anglo-Caribbean architectural heritage, carefully translating historical forms into a contemporary hospitality experience that feels both sophisticated and inviting.
In the guestrooms, we explored the tradition of multi-colored shutters and Dutch textile patterns to evoke the feeling of a beautifully appointed home. Custom headboards reference iconic Dutch clock gables, and every material, from fabrics to finishes, was selected for both tactile comfort and lasting impact. The palette balances warmth and openness, with bold, site-specific contemporary art providing the signature statement in each room. Guests enjoy an average of 15 pieces of original art per room, turning every stay into a curated, immersive experience.
Since the renovation, The Seagate has not only elevated its guest experience but also its commercial performance: room rates have increased, and the property continues to operate at 100% occupancy during peak season, proving that design excellence can directly drive revenue.
The project’s success was recognized in 2025 when Aspire Design & Home included The Seagate in its inaugural Destinations by Design: Best in Hospitality & Travel Awards, highlighting properties that shape the emotional and aesthetic fabric of modern hospitality. Watts & Dray’s work demonstrates how thoughtful design—rooted in history but executed for today—can elevate a resort into a destination that captivates guests and strengthens brand value.
